Our church was founded in the summer of 1964...

...under the name, Bible Baptist Church of Lakewood.  A few years later the church adopted the name, Lakewood Baptist Temple.  It was a popular theme in those days to use the word "Temple" in baptist church names and it served us well.  However, in the last decade, it has become very clear that "Temple" was starting to cause some confusion about who we are and what we believe.  At the beginning of 2024, the church voted to change the name to "Legacy Baptist Church".  Though our name has changed a couple of times throughout the last 60 years, our committment to soul winning and belief that the Bible is the source of all truth has not.

Our philosophy of ministry

We try to operate on two simple Bible principles:

1. Until the return of Jesus, the New Testament church will always have a presence in this world (Matthew 16:18)

2.  The New Testament church has been commissioned to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ to the unsaved and to train believers to become serious disciples of Jesus Christ (Matthew 28:18-20)

Therefore, we believe that our involvement in church is not merely to attend and be blessed.  We believe that the church is a conduit for service, it is the place where God has chosen to use men and women to accomplish His work.  We believe that, if done as the Bible teaches, we can help families and individuals start a new legacy, a godly legacy, a legacy that lasts.
